Oh, the villain! The characters we love to hate, the ones who add delicious conflict and keep us cheering for our heroine and hero! but, really? Are they really evil? I ask this question because of an online game my family plays. There are two factions and generally depending on which faction you choose the other is "evil" But here's the thing--when you create your character you get a pretty cool cut scene that gives the background story for whatever race you pick. Through this story you learn, hey, those guys really aren't the bad guys they're just trying to do the best they can with what they've got and are completely misunderstood by the opposite side. SO maybe, our book villains, really aren't that bad at all? Maybe they're just misunderstood and looking to tell their story--which you can find out from my fellow Carnies whose links are to the left. Maybe we shouldn't really love to hate them. Nah...
