Editing:the Uber-sucky aspect of writing

I don't think i could be an editor, at least not the creative type.  I can find misspelled words and incorrect idiomatic phrases (it's COULDN'T care less, people) like nobody's business.  However, trying to edit my own story has seriously sucked.  This is funny because I'm actually a detail oriented person.  The general story arc is done.  The major highs and lows have been plotted.  Now I just have to weave them all together and I'm finding that to be difficult. What's fluff and what's necessary? Does this sentence (or dialogue) make the story better or is it just filling word count?  It's a very frustrating place to be in and is causing me to slack in the way of editing.  So if you see me on twitter or on my newly created (almost) author FB page , ask how the editing is going.  Or tell me to get my lazy butt back to work.
